New Year, New Style, & Same Amazing You

on December 30, 2019

It’s time to say goodbye to this decade and step into a brand new one with both confidence and  style. Let go of all the crazy (sometimes even outlandish) fads we all participated in and jump into 2020 being simply the best version of you. This all starts with the most important day of this new journey though, New Year’s Eve, because who doesn’t love feeling their best and starting a new 12-month chapter on a high and fashionable note? Whether you’re going to a house party, heading over to the bar, or hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration in your own home, this night is the perfect starting horn to the new decade.

Here are a few of our stylists’ top picks to help you ring in NYE right:

  • Sequins are always a dazzling choice for New Year’s celebrations, but this year we say reinvent how we would usually wear them. Instead of dawning a sequin jumpsuit or basic sequin dress, try styling a black jumpsuit with a white blazer, and top it off with a sequined clutch to let you shimmer brighter than the ball in Times Square.

  • Be bold in your color choices. NYE is about celebrating another year gone by and letting go of your worries as you dance your way into the next 12 months with a new attitude. Wearing a bold like a red lip or bright jacket color can help bring you confidence and that boss-energy as you strut into the new 365 days ahead.

  • Metallics are a classic way to bring some shine into your new year but we love it even more because it is so easy to pull this into any look and make it as subtle or loud as you would like. A wide-leg metallic pant/legging paired with a black wrap top or leopard print tank is a look for those who really want to make entrance, however you’re not alone if that is a touch much for you. To add a little sparkle into your look without making everyone around you wear sunglasses, simply pair a shimmery eye shadow with a beautiful crimson red blouse and black skirt or your favorite LBD pulled together with a pair of metallic pumps!

2020 is about starting anew, but not by reinventing yourself. As we step into the new year, we will be taking our strides with a new confidence in our choice to stop hiding our flaws and trying to blend in. This year, we are making the resolution to love ourselves exactly as we are and won’t be afraid to show it.

Rosé All Winter Day

on December 28, 2019

You have probably heard of ‘rosé all day’ but have you heard of ‘rosé all winter day’? Rosé is that beautiful tone between pink and beige that is, arguably, also associated closely with the ‘millennial pink’ movement that you have seen everywhere since essentially 2014. To be perfectly honest, that color range can appear to be a bit boring to some on its own or make you think it could wash you out but sometimes things are not as they appear, and this is one of them. We are going to give you a few fun ideas on how to add this perfectly on-trend pink-tinted nude to your winter closet with ease, and hint how you can even play with it in layers (?) . I know you might be thinking ‘more than one shade of pink is not really me’ but there is certainly a difference between what we have in mind and the idea you may have in your head at the moment that makes you believe you could resemble an actor in a Pepto Bismol commercial.

The true secret here is simply that it is all in the details. Whether that it be pulling from already present pink tones in the color of a flower on your dress or bringing rosé into a monochromatic look, incorporating this trend is much more elementary than it might seem at first. Adding a splash of rosé can transform any outfit. When there is an ensemble with more that one shade of pink, it is always important that they either be broken up (typically this is easiest with a neutral color) or be of the same tone (i.e. not a vibrant hot pink with a blush next to each other) so that they still mesh well together without clashing. For example, a beige turtleneck with a rosé-esque faux-fur jacket/cardigan paired with beige boots is a cohesive and simple way to be on trend during the last round of your holiday parties.

This specific look above is more on the bold side of how to pull off the layered look but the way everything is paired together here is such a great diagram for how to apply this trend without making it overwhelming on you. The leather jacket, black boots, black graphic/embellished tee, and pink tulle skirt scream individuality with an edge but it is not exactly something many of us can pull off on a casual Tuesday night. So, we break it down! Instead of pulling pink hues from a bouquet of flowers, try pulling it from a favorite pattered top or sweater of yours and pairing it with either a blush sneaker or even just coordinating it to your lipstick. Another alternative is simply to throw on a pair of blush jeans/leggings with a casual look you would typically just round off with your usual denim or even layer a rosé cardigan on top of a dark color long sleeve t-shirt/light sweater to help give contrast.

Trying new trends in general can be scary at first glance but you simply won’t know unless you try ?

Mad for Plaid

on December 8, 2019

Tis’ the season to see a rise in one of those prints that seems to be all around us but that we often have trouble discerning whether we love or hate…Plaid. Plaid, whether it be checkered or tartan, can bring up a variety of feelings within us based on whatever we associate with it with most. When people think of plaid, some can think of school uniforms, some can think of lumberjacks, some can think of kilts, and, of course, some can think of everything southern or western inspired but plaid can be so much more than the categories it’s subconsciously placed into.

In the mighty words of Lizzo, ‘truth is’ girl, plaid has expanded its reach and is no longer as stereotypical as we’ve been led to believe. Plaid has become a fun and, sometimes even playful, print that allows us to have fun with our wardrobes whilst still sticking to semi-classic roots. This print always comes back to popularity in true or various forms each year because, even though it does have origins in various firm points throughout history, it is also so easy to update with bright and bold colors, modern accessories, and even a subtle mix of other chic prints to spruce up any ensemble! Here are a few ways to pad your plaid with your own unique style this holiday season:

Last-Minute Thanksgiving Style Guide

on November 27, 2019

Is it your first time meeting your partners’ parents? Are you going to a Friendsgiving? Spending time with the in-laws? No matter where you’re celebrating Thanksgiving Day or what you’re bringing to the table, we all face the same conundrum: what to wear?

I’m not sure how it may be in your family or friend group, but for many women it’s a subtle internal standard of: what is everyone else going to be wearing? Will I be too overdressed if I wear this? Or underdressed if I wear that? Like many, we can be torn on whether we would rather be comfy and throw on some leggings and a plush sweater or put on one of our best dresses that highlights ALL of our curves in the best way since the holidays do give us a little extra time to shine (both figuratively and literally thanks to the copious opportunities to dawn metallics, lurex, sequins, etc.).

Many of us also have so much on our hands during this time of year in general that it can feel like an extra challenge to look as great as we would like to with family, friends  kids, and even pets running around: who has the time to even think too much now? Luckily, we are here to help with some easy ways of looking chic on Thanksgiving Day! For all of your potential situations this holiday, here are 4 quick last minute tips to help you get ready before all the wonderful, cranberry-scented madness begins:

  • A jewel tone or printed oversized sweater with leggings and booties can make a quick, comfortable look feel 3 times more chic with 3 times less work.

  • The wrap dress is the master of fast and simple throw-on pieces to create an outfit  that can easily be dressed up or down with minimal effort and maximum comfort.

  • A duster cardigan, dark skinny jeans, and a faux or true front-tucked top can easily compliment every body type and create a put-together yet still casual ensemble.

  • For a dressier affair, try layering a fun skirt ( like the one you have in your closet that you love but can never figure how to wear) over leggings, pair that with a neutral or patterned fitted turtleneck, and top it off with bold/bright heels heels for a pop of color!

Wildly Tame

on November 26, 2019

Are animal prints the new neutral? If you don’t think so at this point…keep reading 😉  From wild to tame, these prints can be amazingly versatile and are a staple in every stylish person’s closet this season. From luxe snake prints to domineering cheetah prints to newly updated prints like giraffe, cow, and tiger, there are a multitude of options everyone can appreciate.

For the last few years, we’ve been seeing this increase in animal print popularity from top designers and this season is no different as prints have gone wild across the board; pouncing in to all of our wardrobes. Some trends come and go but this doesn’t seem to be one that’s leaving anytime soon. Though it’s extremely ‘in’ this season, there have been other times when it’s been considered ‘outdated’, and yet we all have still dawned these primal prints at least once or twice without such a care.

This is the season where we tend to gravitate towards our neutrals that range from browns to cremes to blacks but throwing in a faded or light animal print instead can give us that little something extra to our ensembles without attracting too much attention. Animal prints have become the new alternative neutral because not only are they now proven to be timeless, but they also compliment everything and everyone whether you want to emphasize or keep your tone on the soft side. If you’re on the prowl to stay within budget yet still look chic with ease, here are some ideas on how to keep yourself wildly tame this fall and winter:

  • Blackout: Pair black jeans/leggings with a comfy black sweater and a cheetah print scarf to liven it up!

  • An All-Denim Look from ZZZ to Zebra – Dark jeans and a dark denim jacket with a pair of zebra printed boots or flats is a super cute and casual upgrade to your everyday look.

  • Prrrrrrinted Jackets – A tiger or cheetah print long coat with a tan sweater and a pair of light blue jeans will keep you warm with a hint of updated edge that can be rounded off perfectly with a pair of black or jewel-tone ankle boots..

  • Bold Layering for the Lazy – If you’re feeling daring one chilly day this year, try pairing a sleeveless/short-sleeve light giraffe print dress with a neutral (white/black/beige/brown/grey) color turtleneck underneath finished off by combat boots.

  • Beanie Baby – Who doesn’t love a thick and comfy beanie? Take a light white blouse and either lightly washed or dark denim blue jeans then pair them with bold boots and a leopard print beanie for a fun take on cozy winter cool!!

Libra Season Style Guide

on October 23, 2019

With fall in full swing, so is the Libran season (which is essentially all of pumpkin-spice season to most true-hearted Libras ?). If you’re anything like myself, you sometimes loosely utilize astrology as a form of guidance. When the sun enters Libra from September 23rd to October 23rd, not only do our ways of thinking change, but so do our styles as its the official beginning of the sweater weather. We replace our mini-skirts, T-shirts, and our ‘Hot Girl Summer’ mindsets with coats, boots, and rational but still chic thinking. We tend to reflect more on practical(ish) decisions this season than we do when it’s summer, the living is easy, and the sun is in Gemini, Leo, Cancer or Virgo.

When autumn approaches, we often hear the people around us say, ‘now I can really dress’, implying they can now truly showcase their best personal styles, which is thought to be partly attributed to our air sign encouraging charisma, creativity, beauty, and new ideas within them. This is the season to welcome changes to our wardrobes and take a little risk in trying something new. Luckily, Fashom makes this aspect easy for you with personalized boxes that are shipped right to your front door!

Late-September to late-October is the peak time to release our inner Cher from Clueless, played by fellow Libran, Alicia Silverstone. Cher embodied; charisma, risk, creativity, and beauty through her clothing (plus those iconic one-liners). This can encourage us to do the same with our very own closets. Here is some stylish and trendy Libra season outfit inpso based off the Libran character that you can easily rock:

  • Professional Perfection: A black blazer, white lace button-down, a gray plaid pencil skirt or mustard trousers, and a pair of black heels with metal details or bold flats.

  • Casual Chic: Pairing a beret/flat brim fedora, with a detailed jacket (stripes, polkadots, or a different texture like corduroy), with black jeans, and a pair of ankle booties.

  • Mad for Plaid: Pairing together a plaid blazer/jacket with a pair of pants in the same print and color with a white blouse, and a pair of white vegan-leather sneakers is a bold but rewarding styling option this season.

  • Easy with Plaid-ttitude : If you feel plaid on plaid is too out there, wearing a plaid shirt half tucked (tucking in one side of the shirt into your pants while leaving the rest out of the shirt outside of them) with solid colored pants or jeans is also a great alternative that Cher would likely rock herself.

  • Feeling Vest-ive: If you just have a casual meeting or parent teacher conference to attend but still want to look chic, you could wear a quilted neutral colored vest, a bold button-down, matching jeans, and some patterned ankle booties.

  • Mesh Madness: If you are going out for a night on the town, this could be the outfit for you. Marry together a black mesh-detail top (with or without a tube top/cami underneath), black wide-leg pants or jeans, and a pair of heels or ankle booties, and you’re ready for a night out with your girlfriends.

Fall Trend Report

on October 6, 2019

When the weather turns cooler, so does our style. Gone are the days of sandals and shorts…Now we must saddle up, and throw on our prints and our cowboy boots. As we welcome the new autumn season, we welcome the new fashion trends as well.

Aside from the animal prints we are seeing everywhere, tailored power suits, neon colors, English tweed, dark florals, lace, oversized denim jackets, metallics, cowgirl accessories, and lots of pockets are what to watch out for this season. Already we can see ourselves pulling out a few fashion-forward pieces inspired by these when our own Fashom boxes deliver some of these exciting trends! This season has shaken things up with these updated twists on classic Fall styles:

  • The Fall power suit has well-tailored angles, padded shoulders, and a belted waist to help you embrace your curves.
  • Prepare to wow your friends with neon! If you’re feeling really edgy, you can do the look from head to toe or simply add a bright belt for a pop on an all black outfit.
  • Tweed gets a fresh look in perfectly cut capes, belted coats, and pleated asymmetrical skirts.
  • Florals for spring? Not exactly…This autumn offers a new take on florals by making them dark and woodsy yet still feminine.
  • Rock n’ roll metallics are perfect for a night out on the town in chic party dresses or skinny coated jeans.
  • Cowgirl accessories are predicted to be more common than you might think with data showing a huge increase in searches for rancher hats (whether you live in the West or just like listening to Old Town Road). Fringe, western boots, and embellished denim all help make up the trendy, ‘urban cowgirl’ look.
  • Pockets are a trend? Yup, and here’s why we’re excited; we are able to not only be trendy but can utilize these for our absolute essentials rather than toting around a heavy bag with us all day.
  • Lace also receives an update in the shape of risqué yet still conservative mini and maxi dresses.

We love that this season encourages women to step out of their comfort zones while staying true to their own styles. Although some of these trends may not be your cup of tea, this season offers a little something for everyone. Tweeds for the woman with more classic tastes, the sophisticated working woman gets an update to the staple power suit, the woman who love taking risks with a bit of edge can make an entrance with neon pops, and if you’re like us, you can mix and match some of these trends together to create a look that is as unique as you are! Here are a few pics to help give you some seriously stylish inspo 😉

Fall is Coming Too Soon! Upcoming Autumn Trends 2019

on September 2, 2019

Who’s excited about Fall!? We are over here at FASHOM. Pumpkin spice, layering, and colorful leaves are what we are waiting for! The best part about Fall is the fashion that gets to be worn. Long trench coats, fuzzy hats, and layering pieces together is so fun to incorporate in your wardrobe. Unlike sweltering hot seasons and brutally cold winters, Fall doesn’t limit you to wearing your favorite pieces. It’s no secret Fall reigns supreme with style. Here are the upcoming Fall trends to expect this 2019 season.

1. Belted Trenches

Blazers and suited trenches stole our hearts many moons ago, but this season we will be expecting to see more feminine silhouettes with structured trenches this season. Trench coats with a belt or elastic waist will give the figure a more curvaceous look this season, which will implement a groundbreaking trend. Above are examples of the belted trenches.

2. The Longer the Coat, the Better

Trench coats are fun to style and layer. However, they’re even more interesting when they fall below the knee. This will help you stay warm when the weather begins to chill. Play around with different patterns and textures for a crisper and sharper look. Some bold prints such as cranberry and orange will master this look.

3. Asymmetrical Neck Lines

Fun, flirty, and fierce, asymmetrical necklines are super eclectic. The peek-a-boo look can bring a sexy and playful feel to the entire ensemble. While the weather still permits, show off that one-shoulder look with the over-sized sweater technique and loose fitted tops.

4. A Palooza of Plaid

Plaid has made a 90’s comeback many seasons ago, and it just seems to never go out of style. Plaid scarfs, plaid skirts, and plaid shirts will always be a statement piece for the colder seasons. Just like florals for spring, plaid is groundbreaking for the fall. Everyone should have a plaid piece in their wardrobe – and that’s an order!

5. Shades of Pistachio

One wouldn’t think that green is much of a Fall color, but shades of pistachio have been roaming the fashion industry since the spring and summer and it’s not stopping there. get decorative with different shades of green, from mint, forest green, and emerald. These hues bring out the excitement for Christmas – which is never too soon to celebrate for!

1. Casual Ruffled Gown

Evening dinners with a view on vacation are some of the most relaxing and rejuvenating activities one can plan. Whether you’re watching a band in a ballroom, enjoying the sunset across the ocean, or having a romantic dinner on the beach, having a gorgeous evening gown is a must. A white ruffled dress has been trending this past summer and you can’t go wrong with it. White accentuates all skin tones and looks lovely on all figures.

2. Matching Knits

Two-toned monochromatic pieces are so easy to work with. The best part with this outfit is that you can pair the bottoms or the top with other pieces and create multiple outfits with these. It saves up room when you pack, you’re super comfortable, AND super cute! This outfit is breathable and gives you plenty of room to grow. The bagginess of the look allows you to cool off when you are out for your excursions.

3. Gingham Top and Denim Jacket

This top is super cute and keeps you cool when you’re enjoying the summer heat. What’s even more fun about it is that it’s textured and has different layers of prints on it, which adds to the ruffled look. Pair this with a black denim jacket to warm you up if the summer nights on the beach start to cool down. Black and white goes with everything, so you will get multiple uses out of these pieces on your trip.

4. Colorful One-Piece

One pieces have been making a comeback for the past couple of years. They’re super cute and easy to work with when you’re heading for a dip in the pool or sun bathing at the beach. Pack a colorful and bold patterned one-piece with an eclectic designed cardigan for a tailored look.

5. Duster Dress and Boater Hat

This outfit brings winery vibes; or in other instances, brunch and daytime meandering vibes. This outfit is perfect for touring the town or spending the day exploring the spot you’re vacationing at. The hat is perfect for blocking the sun from your face and the dress will keep you cool. This outfit pairs fashion with function – and you’ll look super chic.
