5 Empowering & Inspirational Body Positivity Bloggers

on September 10, 2017

Beautiful, bodacious and bold, these five women are unapologetically confident and they have every right to be. Each and every one of the influencers that are listed below celebrates and promotes body positivity, self-love and the true art of fashion. These ladies encourage people through blogs and personal movements that urge individuals to break the unrealistic and idealistic beauty and body standards that have been heavily portrayed by the media, fashion industry, and celebrities through various platforms.

These five women are showcasing the importance of using your voice to speak on and stand up for what you believe in, especially when you’re lucky enough to have a large following base. It’s imperative that humans remember that their shapes, sizes, and colors aren’t what makes them beautiful, so Fashom thanks, those individuals that are constantly reminding people it’s what’s on the inside that truly matters!

Below are Fashom’s top FIVE empowering and inspirational body and beauty activist.

One. Jasmine

It is Fashom’s duty to continuously encourage women to accept themselves just as they are. Whether or not if an individual’s physique is labeled as “slender,” “curvy” or “fat” is irrelevant to us because all bodies are beautiful regardless of what society has labeled their body type. To all the women out there who are suffering and having trouble loving their bodies to the fullest, remember that you are #BetterAsIAm!

Hassle Free Clothing

on September 9, 2017

We all have those days where we struggle to find an outfit or even worse, we simply just have zero motivation to rummage through our closet. Those problems are the reason we all need a few clothing options in our wardrobe that are hassle free. When I say “hassle free” I’m referring to those simple clothing items that you can easily throw on and have a complete look in seconds. Since I tend to face this struggle more often than not, I decided to share my latest go-to options with you all.

One. Kimonos

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:21.jpg

Throwing on a kimono is always my first option when it comes to not knowing what to wear. Although kimonos won’t fully clothe you, they do serve as the perfect cover-ups that’ll spice up any look. Kimonos are super-lightweight, have wide flowing sleeves and you can find them in just about any color and/or pattern. I wear my kimonos with a simple white top and a jean skirt or shots.

Two. The Wrap Dress

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:DS61393BLKROSE-1_2048x2048.jpg

Wrap around dresses are NOT only one of the simplest silhouettes, but also versatile and can be worn and appropriate for various events. Wrap dresses come with zero hardware, zipper or buttons – only one simple tie around the waste that keeps the dress closed and they tend to have a v-neckline, which adds a little spice to the look. You can wear these dresses with any type of shows, but I love pairing my dress with a pair of sandals and a necklace to jazz up the look a little more.

Three. Romper

Rompers are my favorite clothing essential because they’re minimalist, extremely comfortable and they’re all one piece. When I say one piece, I mean you literally don’t have to pick out a top or bottom and the best part is your bottoms are shorts. In one step, you simply jump into the rompers bottom half, pull up the upper half and you’re ready to go. I pair my rompers with any pair of shoes that match the occasion and a pair of hoops or a necklace.

I hope these clothing options make yall’s days a little more hassle free!

Forever 21 Hacks

Top Ten Forever 21 Hacks

Forever 21 is a great place for all kinds of body shapes and sizes. It’s a safe haven for those who want affordable and in-style clothes at the same time.

Here are some Forever 21 hacks that will help your shopping experience!

  1. Do Not Shop Online at Forever 21 – It is hard to tell whether a clothing item will fit you the way you want it to. Make sure you read all the details carefully and pay extra attention to the material it is made out of. Some materials shrink after one use. Even if you are a pro at online shopping, Forever 21 is a tricky place.
  2. Check for Rips, Missing Buttons, and makeup Marks – Often, people return clothing after only one use. There is a greater chance to find makeup marks and other discrepancies on returned items. Forever 21 also offers 10% discount on items that have damage!
  3. See-Through Check – To check how see-through an item is, you should always place your hand inside the material. You don’t want to purchase an item that is too see-through for your liking.
  4. Make Sure You Treat Your Purchase Right – Due to Forever’s less quality, make sure you play close attention to the washing directions. Wash everything on delicate!
  5. Studentrate – If you are a student, you can get a discount on top of already low prices by signing up for student-rate. Get additional 4 percent cash back.
  6. Buy Outside Brands – The Branded Shop Collection contains clothes from CC Skye, Gypsy Warrior, and Alternative Apparel.
  7. Last Stop Is Accessories – Look at all of the accessories last if you are planning to try on clothes. You are not allowed to bring any accessories in the fitting room. Look for them last according to the clothes you plan to purchase!
  8. Shop Between 10 AM and 12 PM on Weekdays – To avoid a long line, you should ideally shop at Forever 21 between 10 AM and 12 PM on weekdays. Employees are still unpacking new products when the store opens. You might be lucky enough to come across a brand-new item!
  9. The Good Clothes Are Blended in the Back – When there is only one size left of an item, sales associates are told to place them onto a rack of other clothes. Those particular items were popular and sold fast. They act like hidden treasures!
  10. Look for #F21xMe Hashtag on Instagram – Since Forever 21 combines forces with many bloggers and Instagrammers who feature the brand’s clothing, you can see lots of pieces that will be in store soon. It always great to be ahead of trends!

Methods on How to Overcome Body Shame

on September 6, 2017

In this current day and age, the media and our society have made it extremely hard for individuals to love themselves. The media, their various platforms, and celebrities have created this “ideal’ body type that’s honestly not even the average body type of most humans in the world. The idealistic body views have caused body shaming to really skyrocket over the last few years. Body shaming primarily takes place through social media, where users are bullied through comments, personal messages and more. I’d also like to point out a very important fact, that the people being targeted are both curvy and thin women. This is a very important topic, so I’ve decided to give a little personal advice that I hope helps anyone who’s struggling to love him or herself fully.

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:n-WOMAN-BODY-POSITIVE-628x314.jpg

One. Choose wisely whom you surround yourself with: I know we’ve all heard the saying “birds of a feather flock together” and that is one of the truest quotes. You should always pay close attention to the people that you let in your circle. Those that are close to you will be the individuals that shape your views and mindset, so in that means you want to always surround yourself with loving, body positive and body accepting people so you can be around people that personally make you feel good.

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:Unknown.jpeg

Two: Watch who you allow to follow you on social media platforms: you should intentionally only allow people to view your social media platforms who promote body acceptance and self-love, this is important so that you can ensure that you won’t ever have to face the wrath of internet trolls and bullies.

Three: Try to locate the root to your problems: I know this can be a difficult one, but it’s important to take time out of your day, each day, and really spend time trying to pinpoint the reasons why you’re feeling certain ways. Yes, you know you feel some ways because of the Internet and others views, but the most important thing is to find your inner reasons.

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:Thou-Shalt-Not-Be-Judged-Thoughts-on-Online-Body-Shaming1.jpg

Remember, I am only human and my advice and answers may not always be correct, but these are a few things that allowed me to overcome my downfalls. I hope the things that helped me, help you all.

“Is Body Acceptance an Excuse for not Taking Care of Yourself?”

on September 4, 2017

Real Words From a Self-Image Coach

Summer Innanen, a professionally trained coach on body-image, self-worth, and confidence, recently tackled the question of whether body acceptance is an excuse to not take care of oneself. In this video, Summer analyzes and evaluates this very powerful and controversial question.

“Is Body Acceptance an Excuse for not Taking Care of Yourself?”

Summer’s answer to this question is a strong no.

First, she defines what exactly body positivity is. She takes a stance on just the word “excuse” and how it is a “justification of an offense”. Innanen explores how excuses develop from mistakes, which have very negative connotations.

Summer, then, reveals the bigger issue of the question. The question assumes that body size is suggested on how “well” you take care of yourself. Summer lays down real words of wisdom and explains that care for oneself is very subjective, therefore, very individualistic.

This short, yet powerful video on body acceptance is a great one. Summer Innanen broke down the question and turned the negativity of the question into positivity. At Fashom, we believe what Summer preaches. Thank you for this insightful video!

The Plus Size Clothing Line of The Year

on August 30, 2017

There’s absolutely nothing more frustrating than wanting to shop in popular retail stores that consist of the chicest and trendiest clothes, but you can’t ever find one clothing piece that fits your frame properly, or more importantly, fits you AT ALL. Thankfully, for all my ladies in this same boat, the Goddesses Nicolette Mason and Gabi Gregg have officially answered our prayers.

Natalie Mason and Gabi Gregg have been best friends for nearly a decade, but beyond that, independently and together these two women have become two of the most trusted body activist and influential beauty & style bloggers within the plus-size industry.

As curvy and bodacious women, these two are constantly being faced with the difficulty of finding trendy, unique and “cool” clothing items that fit their size, flatter their shape and make them feel confident. These challenges resulted in Mason and Gregg disrupting the fashion industry and creating their OWN fashion brand, Premme, which consists of sizes ranging from 12 – ___. Premme released their first collection of 15 pieces on July 25th and their second installment will include 26 pieces and is expected to drop early September.

With Premme’s first installment selling out so quickly, it’s clear that the demand for this clothing line is high. If you want to guarantee that you’ll get your hands on any items from the second installment, I would advise that you act fast when the next collection drops!

Feeling Fat is NOT a Feeling

on August 23, 2017

Today, I want to discuss an emotional and personal matter with all of you. I’m sure you guys remember in 2015 when Facebook faced the wrath of hell by offering the emoticon “fat” as an option for what users were “feeling” like that day.

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:fat-is-not-a-feeling-facebook.jpg

Body positivity activist, those who suffer from being overweight and people who have eating disorders voiced their outrage at what could be considered a digital form of fat shaming individuals around the world.

I’m bringing up this topic again because lately it’s been a reoccurring event where I hear individuals saying they “feel fat.” I’d like to be clear when I say that FAT is NOT a FEELING. When most of us choose to express our feelings by saying “I feel fat,” we’re really saying that we feel some kind of intense disgust towards our bodies.

Macintosh HD:Users:dareanrhodes:Desktop:77.png

I’m discussing this problem because I feel as though it’s very important that we choose different words than “fat” when we’re emotional and expressing some sort of disgust towards ourselves. We should find accurate words when we’re unhappy with ourselves because in reality when you say “I feel fat” there are countless of people you’re offending and emotionally damaging.

This post was just a reminder to everyone that it’s extremely important to think twice about what we have to say, even when it’s about ourselves.
