Golden Globe MeToo Statement

on January 10, 2018

If you’re a Fashomista you already know that fashion says, “Me too!” (I like that too) whereas style says “Only me!” (Only I like this) Fashion makes a statement before you ever even open your mouth. The celebrities of the Golden Globes made both a fashion and political statement, by wearing all black everything to stand in solidarity bringing awareness to sexual harassment and assault in the Hollywood community and scene.

In October of 2017, the hashtag #MeToo went viral in the wake of allegations of sexual assault allegations against the infamous Harvey Weinstein. The hashtag was utilized in efforts to show just how rampant misogynistic behavior and tendencies are everywhere; it was meant to make everyone aware that sexual assault is a problem and can happen to anyone (women and even men too!) Celebrities shared their Hollywood horror stories of sexual misconduct and encouraged the everyday woman to share as well. Tarana Burke, a woman of color and civil rights activist, is the creator of the hashtag and wanted it to be a source of empathy for women who had been survivors of an assault. Alyssa Milano popularized the hashtag via Twitter when the Weinstein allegations first came to light. Oprah included in her Cecil B. de Mille Award acceptance speech that she wanted to honor the women that had endured years of abuse. Oprah’s speech moved the audience to many rounds of applause and a standing ovation. I’m sure it touched the hearts of little girls and women of color around the world.

Fashion again is a statement. Style is YOUR statement. Celebrities donned some decadent pieces at this year’s 75th annual Golden Globes. The red carpet seemed draped in black. Black is the new statement color. Black is the new black. Black says here I am. Black says strength. Black says unity. The celebrities of the Golden Globes made their fashion statement, but each individual made their statement with their own style. All kinds of trends were relevant for this red carpet scene: sheer, pantsuits, lace, princess gowns, sleek and simple, above the ankle/knee dresses, pops of color, sparkle, texture, and of course none other than statements.

Here are some outfits that we created from the inspiration the celebrities of the Golden Globes gave us here at Fashom.

Bare it all with sheer black, but keep it fun with a little sparkle in your heels and accessories.

Get your shine on and add a little pop of color to it too. If you want to be extra fab add a little fur and a statement heel.

Keep it sleek and simple with a pantsuit or jumpsuit and a single sole heel. Add a little bling to some balance.

Be edgy with this leather look. The fur heels add a little luxe to the look. Break up the monotony with a color blocked clutch.

If all black everything is just up your alley, and if you like to make a statement download the Fashom App (test.www.fashom.com) for more outfit inspo. Check out our new stylist feature if you want a style that makes YOUR statement.
